Resources for Educators

S.C.O.R.E. offers a range of resources to support educators as they integrate robotics, coding and hands-on STEM learning into their classrooms. From instructional videos to equipment lending programs, these resources are designed to reduce barriers, build confidence and support meaningful student engagement with technology.

Use the sections below to explore tools and programs available to teachers, schools and educational partners.

Robotics Build Tutorials

These short instructional videos provide step-by-step guidance for building common drivetrain systems used in classroom robotics projects and competitions. Designed for educators and students, the tutorials support hands-on learning and help demystify robot construction using widely adopted platforms.

Available Tutorials

  • H-Drive Build Tutorial with VEX IQ
Learn how to build and understand an H-drive system, including movement capabilities and classroom applications.

  •
  • X-Drive Build Tutorial with VEX IQ
Explore the design and function of an X-drive system, with guidance for assembly and instructional use.

These videos are ideal for teachers introducing robotics for the first time or supporting students as they move into more advanced robot design.

Simon-Knowles Innovation Learning Library (SKILL)

The Simon-Knowles Innovation Learning Library, or SKILL, is a S.C.O.R.E. initiative designed to reduce barriers to STEM and robotics instruction in K–12 classrooms. SKILL provides trained educators with access to classroom sets of robotics platforms at no cost, allowing schools to implement hands-on learning without the expense of purchasing equipment.

SKILL prioritizes service to rural and under-resourced school systems in east central Alabama and is administered by the Southeastern Center of Robotics Education in the College of Sciences and Mathematics at Auburn University. The program is named in honor of Dr. Marllin Simon and Dr. Harry Knowles, two Auburn professors who shared a lifelong commitment to science education and outreach.

How SKILL Works

  1. Educators attend a S.C.O.R.E. Robotics Institute training
  2. Trained educators reserve available robotics equipment
  3. Equipment is picked up from S.C.O.R.E.
  4. Classroom sets are used for several weeks, then returned

SKILL provides training alongside equipment access, ensuring educators feel prepared to implement robotics instruction effectively.

Available Robotics Platforms

SKILL classroom kits may include:

  • CodeBot and CodeX

  • CoDrone EDU

  • Cue and Dash

  • Edison

  • Makey Makey

  • micro:bit

  • Sphero Bolt and RVR

  • VEX 123, GO, IQ and EXP classroom kits

Availability may vary.

More Than Just Robots

Robotics instruction fosters problem-solving, creative thinking and collaboration while helping students develop both technical and non-technical skills. Educators consistently report increased student engagement and interest across STEM subjects when robotics is introduced. Robotics also supports workforce development by building skills such as communication, teamwork and technology literacy.
